Arkaba, a Wild Bush Luxury property in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia, is a 60,000 acre private wildlife conservancy that is shared by just 10 guests.
The ancient landscapes of the stunning property have an Aboriginal history going back thousands of years and a geological history dating hundreds of millions of years. Craggy sandstone bluffs and dry creek beds lined with river red gums create a quintessential Australian scene.
Once a sheep station, the five-room 1850’s Arkaba homestead has been tastefully restored in line with property’s pioneering story, and in tune with Wild Bush Luxury’s understated yet cleverly up-cycled Australian style. Hosted dinners and sharing stories with field guides and fellow guests provide an atmosphere more akin to staying with friends in the country or a private safari lodge, than a typical luxury hotel.
Rates include daily exploration across the property with field guides and feature bush walking, 4WD safaris, wildlife spotting, visiting ancient Aboriginal sites or just soaking up the sights and sounds of the Australian bush. Picnic under magnificent River Red Gums, track native wildlife, learn the stories of early European settlement or take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound.
Wild Bush Luxury’s ownership of Arkaba has allowed the pursuit of an underlying passion for conservation and to use tourism as a means to conserve a sizeable area of beautiful and ecologically significant landscape. In turn the conservation work has become an active ingredient in the tourism experience to create a truly memorable outback experience.
